Efficient space utilization is important in many rackmount computer applications. However, it is critical that one make the most out of the limited component mounting space available in a military aircraft, ground vehicle, surface ship or submarine. Of all of these Mil-COTS defense applications, the submarine probably has of the most limited space available for installing rackmount components. The server-room shown in the photo below is from a Virginia-class submarine, and you can see that there isn't a lot of room available for rack mounting LCD Monitors or Keyboards.
A rack component mounting methodology is needed in these applications that allow:
* Occasional monitor or keyboard usage
* Enable one LCD monitor and keyboard to be shared among multiple rackmount servers
* Save server room and rack space by having the display and keyboard fold back into the component rack when not in use
Rackmount LCD monitors and keyboards that meet these application requirements serve to optimize the limited space available not only in military applications like submarines and surveillance aircraft, but also in the crowded server rooms typically found in broadcasting, telecom and industrial automation.
Smartvm offers a number of different 2U and 1U Rackmount LCD Monitor with keyboard trays that solve the space issues related to LCD Displays and keyboards used in crowded server rooms. The Smartvm product contains verity of 1U LCD product featuring like a 17" LCD Display with an 8-port KVM switch. The smartvm monitor enables automated visualization and control for up to eight rackmount computers and the retractable drawer enables the monitor and keyboard to slide back into the rack when they are not needed.
